On Work  Job satisfaction and boredom.

Work is exertion or effort directed to produce or accomplish something. An activity physical or mental aimed at achieving an objective. It is usually associated with earning money or a salary. In fact it has to do with daily living.e.g. making something, serving someone, providing something of worth to others (either individually or to the community in which you live [local or globally]).

Work therefore is an activity that involves a choice, a steady or intermittent effort, exertions, energy. It can be an enjoyable, educative process which makes the worker get better and experienced at the activity.

Why do you need to work? God worked Gen.2:2 and rested on the 7th day Adam was commanded to work Gen.3:17-19

Work gives you an identity and is an antidote to boredom. If you do not work you don’t eat. (2Thes3:10)   People work to earn money (by direct employment) or produce things that can be sold to earn money. People need money to buy food, pay their rent, for everyday needs and for recreation. It gives a sense of purpose and achievement. It allows socialisation with other people outside your family. Work is good for our health and wellbeing; It contributes to our happiness and helps us to build our self- esteem and confidence.

Effects of laziness. –  Proverbs 24:30-34

Attitude to Work.

Your attitude to work is very important. Your attitude to work should not be a means of economic survival only. This attitude is not conducive to foster job satisfaction, and lack of a job satisfaction leads to being ineffective at work. (The Quality and quantity, relationship with colleagues and management) This type of attitude does not benefit the, individual, the employer and the society and the economy. The correct attitude should be, you chose to work because you enjoy it and are willing to put in the right effort and time into the work. You aim to work positively, timely and efficiently and to acquire experience and job satisfaction. The aim is to help yourself and your community.

Job Satisfaction. A positive emotion, connection with, and a sense of meaning associated with a job. These are best combined with positive relationships and achievement.

Why is Job Satisfaction or fulfilment Important?   1. Career success is a significant component of personal success. 2 .Our self-worth has become tied to our professional worth. It is popularly taught that in order to be viewed as “successful” individuals, we must attain a certain level of professional achievement. 3. Most people of working age work an average of 8 hours a day 5 days a week. This is a large chunk of our lifetime. Life can feel empty if you do not enjoy what you are doing. 4. Your work or career put food on the table  (a mean of economic survival) for you and your family. Stress sets in if the career gives no fulfilment. 5. Career is closely tied to identity. Socially a way to break the ice with a stranger is to ask.  What do you do?’ If you are not happy with what you do, socialisation will not be enjoyed. Though people are unconsciously put in ‘Professional Boxes’ a person who has job fulfilment will be recognised by the way they talk about their jobs. It shows in their voice, face and body language.

Job satisfaction isn’t all about the job. It’s about how the person  match up with the job and   how well they provide for one another’s needs. To find fulfilment you need to 1.Vigorously self-explore yourself. This process is not comfortable, and unless you do this you cannot be fulfilled at your job. 2. Career fulfilment is not automatic, but takes time and investment of resources. Know your  personal and professional need . 3. Listen to the quiet voice inside you, your instincts/gut.

4. Take the time to carefully analyse what’s working, what’s not and why.

5. Don’t hop from job to job in search of a higher salary.  Ask for help. Learn from others. There is wisdom from senior colleagues, family, they may have stories that will guide you. 6. Seek a career adviser or coach. It is a process, and it takes hard work. Engage yourself physically, mentally and spiritually. 7. Do not let fear deprive you of the satisfaction you deserve in life. Fear of change, of the unknown. of making the wrong decision. Don’t develop a victim’s mentality by blaming external forces. You hold the cards 100% in your hands, realising and grasping this fact will empower you and open a world of greater opportunities. You are responsible for your choices.
